Sometimes the head of an organization must be held accountable for unacceptable behavior. The owner of the Chicago Cubs is facing a lawsuit filed by two women who say they were sexually harassed by the chief operating officer of his charity organization, the Opportunity Education Foundation. They also say they were ultimately retaliated against and fired.
The women, both from Nebraska, say the COO made several inappropriate comments to them, including commenting on their physical appearance, including their legs and cleavage. The man was apparently fired after they reported the sexual harassment to Human Resources, but they say he was re-hired on a contract basis almost immediately.
The employees also say the owner retaliated against them for logging the complaints. He allegedly told one of them only weeks later that her services were no longer needed, according to NBC Chicago's website. The other woman says she was purposely left out of meetings and was told that she had to get along better with the COO. Eventually, both were terminated from their employment after being put on administrative leave.
According to reports, the employees were backed up by Nebraska Equal Opportunity Commission on their claims of harassment retaliation. The owner disputes the allegations and says the women may have misunderstood some of his comments.
The charity organization the women worked for, based in Omaha, reportedly provides educational opportunities to kids in developing countries. In addition to owning the Cubs, the charity owner also founded TD Ameritrade.
