Bartenders and servers can expect to encounter a lot of people in the course of their employment. Bartenders, in particular, are likely to be around people who are less inhibited because of the alcohol they've consumed. As a result, they may be subjected to sexual harassment from patrons.

Sometimes, though, they also are sexually harassed by their bosses. One woman, a former bartender from East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, says that her ex-boss sexually harassed her and fired her. She's filed a discrimination complaint with the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination this week for the alleged harassment and retaliation.

The former bartender, who worked at Patriot Pub & Grille on Bedford Street beginning in July 2010, says her manager made inappropriate sexual comments and advances.

In addition to making sexual remarks at work, the woman says her boss even followed her home one night in October of last year. He offered her a rose.

She says that when she asked him to stop, he retaliated against her. He allegedly ordered her to do things that were not within her job duties, such as clean a bathroom. She also claims her former manager made her trade shifts with other employees so she would get paltry tips.

Last May, she says she refused to serve an intoxicated patron more alcohol. The customer apparently told her he know the owner and that she would be fired the following day. That's exactly what happened, the woman says.

The manager denies the ex-employee's claims. A spokesperson for the commission has not confirmed the complaint filing, according to Enterprise News.
