A city employee says she was sexually harassed by the city's street commissioner. To make matters worse, she claims, the mayor dismissed her complaints and thereafter her work duties changed. The woman accordingly filed a sexual harassment complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
The employee, who worked as a treasury-clerk with the city, says the street commissioner began harassing her back near the beginning of 2009. She claims he asked her inappropriate questions, such as one regarding her and her husband's sexual relationship. He also allegedly showed her pictures of naked women on his cellphone.
The last straw was when she allegedly found a partially used bottle of adult massage cream he had placed under her desk. She says he told her he thought she would find it funny. Instead, she filed a sexual harassment complaint with the mayor.
According to FOX 59's website, the woman says she knew the man was friends with the mayor, but she did not think that would mean the street commissioner would not be disciplined. However, the mayor apparently investigated the complaint and found that it was "horseplay" and only gave the man a reprimand.
To make matters worse, the woman says, her duties evolved after she filed the complaint. She felt like she had been penalized. She was no longer able to communicate with the mayor, she says, and she was no longer allowed to handle personnel matters as she had before. She says she hopes filing the complaint will prevent any future harassment.
