A woman who used to work for the Golden State Warriors made headlines last week when she filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against guard Monta Ellis.
The ex-employee claims in her lawsuit that Ellis pursued her over text messages, including with explicit messages and a picture of his genitals. The messages would allegedly say things like, "I want to be with you." She says the behavior was unwanted and she did nothing to encourage it.
The woman claims the star guard sometimes sent her messages several times a day, beginning in November 2010. She rejected his advances, she says, but was fearful of how people would react. She apparently thought people wouldn't believe her.
The woman, who worked in the community relations department, says in her lawsuit that she was retaliated against for saying no to the guard, who then allegedly complained about her work performance. The team also apparently changed her job description and ultimately terminated her from her position, she says.
In the lawsuit, in addition to sexual harassment, the woman is seeking damages for intentional infliction of emotional distress, retaliation and wrongful termination.
Her attorney says she felt intimidated, helpless and embarrassed, according to an article in the Los Angeles Times. Meanwhile, the Warriors' president and chief operating officer is calling the relationship consensual and denies the allegations.
Her lawyer, however, calls the relationship, "100 percent not consensual." The woman still has the photo Ellis allegedly sent her, which will likely be used as evidence.
